Abstract/Summary:
In the 1990s, software applications became viable solutions for yielding professional quality work in the field of video and communications media. Brad Nogar, President of Digital Processing Systems, stated that "more has changed in the last five years than in all the time since the Radio Act of 1927" (Kovacs, 2000, p. 40). This rapid change in the communications industry is making it hard for many to keep up with the changes.;University telecommunications programs may need to make a few changes to keep up with changes in the industry and the needs of students. The surveys indicated that the Kutztown University program is strong in some areas, yet weak in others. Based on the survey, the Department may be able to concentrate on and modify the program to improve it. The Telecommunications Department may want to consider adding more coursework in non-linear editing, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe After Effects, as they were the three items most requested by students and professionals.;This thesis explored the Kutztown University Telecommunications Department with respect to their response to the changing times. Professionals at internship sites and students were asked to rate the program and provide input on their experiences with it. Subjects were asked what software they used and what they thought of various aspects of the Telecommunications program.
