Abstract/Summary:
This study examines the growth and development of the tourism landscape of Thera from the perspective of the Resort Life Cycle model. Three hypotheses guide and form the organizational framework for this tourism geography study. Each hypothesis addresses a facet of the relationship between Thera and the Resort Life Cycle concept. Collectively, the testing of these hypotheses will/should yield an understanding of the growth and development of tourism activity on Thera, the extent to which tourism has impacted the environmental, economic, demographic and social conditions of the island, and the potential for Thera's dependence on a tourism based economy to be sustained or increased in the future.; The results of this study indicated that Them appears to conform to the Resort Life Cycle model, that the model is a useful tool for examining tourism destinations and that the local population supports continued tourism growth.
