Abstract/Summary:
This thesis is a study of the political thought of Bertrand Russell. The thesis attempts to show the interrelationship between Russell's philosophy, ethics, and politics in order to discover the theoretical foundations for his views on political ideals, power, systems of government, and the vital areas of war end peace.; Russell's political ideals are closely related to his ethics, and there is a tendency for him to write more about the ends for mankind than about the means to achieve them. But his political ideas are not solely ethical, and are permeated with other ideas derived from psychology, economics, child training, and history. The ideas are more adequate and accurate when he deals with ethical problems, and less so in the areas of the social sciences.; Russell's political writing reflects a personality that is neither over optimistic nor totally morose.; Russell's political ideas are often expressed as exhortation rather than systematic theory.
