Abstract/Summary:
This thesis investigates the innovation process in firms within the Canadian electronic and telecommunication industry. Furthermore, it determines what strategies are considered important to reduce the innovation turnaround time in the industry.; From the interview results, two models were devised to describe the innovation process within software and hardware firms. The results of the self-administered questionnaire revealed that employee motivation, availability of diverse technical personnel within the firm and employee problem solving capabilities were perceived to be the most important factors in reducing the innovation turnaround time. It was also inferred that respondents categorized their responses on innovation turnaround time reduction in terms of issues related to project management of the innovation process, top management commitment to innovation, external influence on the innovation process, and the product itself.
