Abstract/Summary:
Within the commercial airline industry, a logistics system procedure, aircraft component cannibalization, is used to enhance aircraft operational readiness. No accurate method appears to exist to assess and document its occurrence. The study's researcher sent a self-developed questionnaire to 43 commercial United States airlines to determine whether a method should be instituted to perform such vigilance. The data collected helped to evaluate the present sentiment concerning the current documentation of cannibalization and whether this aids an airline's logistics supply system in locating replacement parts in a more knowledgeable manner. The results of the study determined that accurate documentation and assessment of the cannibalization act ultimately would help the logistics system perform its duties more efficiently and effectively.
