Conventional holography records the amplitude and phase information in the hologram by the interference between the signal light and the reference light.Polarization holography, which is different from conventional holography, records the information with polarization-sensitive materials, through mutual interference of two beams of recording signal light and reference light at different polarization state. In this case, the hologram records not only amplitude and phase information, but also the polarization state information.Polarization holography has attracted widespread interest from researchers since it was first proposed due to its unique ability to record the polarization information of the light field. The early research on polarization holography were based on Jones theory, however, the theory could only be established under the condition of paraxial approximation. That is,the interference angle between the signal light and the reference light should be approximately zero, which is not suitable for large-angle interference recording.Until a few years ago,a theory of polarization holography based on dielectric tensor was proposed. In this theory, the response of recording material to polarized light field was treated by tensor method, and the change of dielectric tensor was expressed by the function of electric field, then combining with the coupled wave theory, polarization holography theory used Maxwell equation to describe the recording and reconstruction process of polarization holography, and derived the diffraction expression at last. The polarization holography theory based on the new method can break through the limitation of paraxial conditions and study the properties of polarization holography at any interference angle. In this paper,we will study the reconstruction properties of orthogonal polarization holography based on the theory of polarization holography with tensor method. After analyzing the recording process and reconstruction process of polarized light holography,by establishing mathematical models,we theoretically analyzes the reconstruction properties of polarization holography based on orthogonal linear polarized light and orthogonal elliptic polarized light. It was found that in the polarization holography based on orthogonal linear polarization, when the interference angle is less than 90 ?,the hologram is read separately with linearly polarized light whose polarization state is same and orthogonal to the recorded reference light, and diffracted light can achieve faithful reconstruction and orthogonal reconstruction;when the interference angle is 90°,the hologram is read with the reconstruction reference light of arbitrary polarization, and the diffracted light can always achieve faithful reconstruction. In polarization holography of orthogonal elliptical polarized light,by using a beam of linearly polarized light as an reconstruction reference light to read the holography, the faithful reconstruction of diffracted light can be realized. When the angle is less than 90 ?,recording materials needs to meet strict exposure conditions, but when the interference angle is 90 ?,no additional conditions are required. We design and build an experimental platform, and the experimental results obtained are consistent with the theoretical analysis.
