Research On Nonferrous Metal Industry In North Korea

With the development of industrialization,the world gradually realized the importance of nonferrous metal resources.Nonferrous metal resources are the important material foundation for the development of national and regional economy,science and technology,national defense and so on.Nonferrous metal industry is the basic industry of a country' s industrial development,which provides raw material support for the development of other industries and has great influence and impetus on the industrialization process of the whole country.North Korea has unique geological conditions and abundant non-ferrous metal resources,among which magnesite deposit ranks the first in the world,molybdenum,tungsten and other resources are also in the forefront of the world.Most of the nonferrous metal resources in north Korea are of economic value and nonferrous metal industry is one of the important means of earning foreign exchange.Based on the increasing demand for nonferrous metal resources in the international market,the development of nonferrous metal industry in north Korea is facing great opportunities.However,although the non-ferrous metal industry in north Korea has a unique resource advantage,but its development process is not smooth.From the perspective of external environment,in recent years,the United Nations against the economic sanctions against north Korea,the north' s nonferrous metal industry was hit hard.From the perspective of internal environment,north Korea is faced with old smelting equipment,poor transport capacity,power shortage and other problems,greatly hindered the development of nonferrous metal industry.In the 21st century,although north Korea has put forward some improvement measures for the non-ferrous metal industry,it has little effective because of its closed economic environment.Based on the economic growth theory and industrial development theory,this paper analyzes the nonferrous metal industry from the perspective of the economic development strategy and economic situation of north Korea,as well as the resource endowment conditions of nonferrous metals,ore production,processing and sales by combining literature analysis with qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis.It is found that the non-ferrous metal industry in north Korea is restricted by domestic import substitution economic strategy and international environment.Low output of non-ferrous metal products;Aging infrastructure and equipment and insufficient electricity;Insufficient funds and backward technology;The problem that sale market is narrow wait for nonferrous metal industry to exist.In view of the above problems,the DPRK should adopt the strategy of transforming its economic development,implementing the export-oriented economic development strategy,actively introducing foreign investment,implementing opening-up,promoting infrastructure construction such as transportation and electricity,expanding export market and other countermeasures to promote the development of non-ferrous metal industry.
