This study makes a significant contribution to new knowledge in the field of organizational identities and how the lack of effective organizational identity and poor core value integration in the corporate group affect organizational performance.The purpose of this study is to explore the strategies that a corporate group in Nigeria known as Shell Nigeria(SPDC)used to establish its organizational identity.This research tends to find the answers to how organizational aspirational values contribute to the development,maintenance and coordination of organizational identity.Participants are being selected using convenience,criteria,and snow-ball sampling strategies.Convenience sampling occurred by selecting individuals who worked for Shell Company located in Nigeria,A purposive sample of senior employees from the company under study participated in semi structured face-to-face interviews.The interview data were transcribed into themes they were subsequently member checked,to increase the trustworthiness of interpretations.The findings included a well-defined mission that attributed to developing shared understanding between employees and their organizational core value.Ultimately,the findings will be of practical relevance for all firms who undergo organizational identity development.The findings can also be useful for other MNCs which undergoing organizational identity development process.This thesis follows the below detailed structure:Section one contains the Introduction which highlights the interest in the concepts of identity within the field of organizational behaviour which provides some information regarding the research.Chapter one,reviews the organizational identity of(SNC)and its practices and research over the years and provides some insights on the organizational identity practices of some Nigerian subsidiaries.Chapter two is the empirical chapter which presents data from the case study organization.Chapter three is about the discussion and conclusion which examines the various implications of the data to tease out significant concepts or themes which contribute to our understanding of employee perceptions of identity,presenting key findings from the thesis,highlights limitations from the research and suggests areas and themes for future research.
