Modern Construction Based On Mortise And Tenon Structure Research On Toy Design

Since ancient times,China has long been a great country boasting a distinctive cultural history.With the fast boom of China's economy and sustaining enhancement of comprehensive national strength,many excellent Chinese traditional cultures are favored by people all over the world in light of extensive communications via various channels.Among them,Chinese mortise-tenon connections have been cognized universally because they cover many fields including architecture,furniture,and other products.Spanning thousands of years,the structure has been remaining one of the Chinese traditional culture treasures.This study focused on the modern constructional toy,featuring integrated functions of learning,entertainment and puzzle,as a carrier of mortise-tenon connection,thereby promoting the inheritance and communication of Chinese traditional culture.Since modern toys are not particularly designed for the clientele of children,the toy market is divided as per different age groups in the second chapter.Meantime,the psychological needs of consumers in different age groups were analyzed for a comprehensive judgment and the imperative features and functions of the modern constructional toys with mortise-tenon connections were eventually defined.In the third chapter,this paper studied traditional mortise-tenon connections,analyzed the compositions,applications and modularization of the connection,delved into the easiness of assembly and disassembly of modular mortise-tenon connections on top of the standardization of the modules,and categorized mortise-tenon connections as per their functions.Furthermore,this paper summarized the issues emerging with the development of existing toys with mortise-tenon connections,providing a feasible reference for later designs of toys with such connections.The fourth chapter presented a more specific definition and a classification of constructional toys.In addition,the essential features of constructional toys were analyzed after a study on the modular design of such toys.Multi-dimensional comparison between the typical constructional toys—LEGO and other toys with mortise-tenon connections has been completed to figure out the diversity and commonality in between,and some new ideas were thus introduced for future creative designs.In the fifth chapter,this paper demonstrated a practical design and verification of a constructional toy with mortise-tenon connections.The design ideas about this kind of toy were sorted out,and the standardized modules of the toy were verified in terms of assembly ways,connections,styling,and color schemes.Ultimately,a physical case and color simulation rendering methods were used to prove the constructional feasibility of the design plan for a constructional toy with mortise-tenon connections,and a comprehensive product evaluation was conducted according to the psychological demands of toy consumer groups.
