Research On Xi’an Traditional Dwellings’ Protection Of Current Situation And Problems

Xi’an is one of the most famous four ancient cities which are known because of their long history and cultural heritage.It is those historical and cultural relics existing for thousands of years that make Xi’an the country’s first batch of national historical and cultural city.Traditional houses is an important part of the cultural relics in Xi’an and also an important way to understand the regional culture in Xi’an,keeping carrying the culture and life of the city and directly reflecting the Xi’an people’s thousands of years of wisdom of life and values.It not only shows the continuity of the life of the residents,but also witnesses the development of Xi’an city and its historical and cultural changes.And it reflects the common memory of the city.With many cultural relics in the city,Xi’an,in the process of rapid development of economy and society,generally lacks understanding the value of houses heritage,and neglects the residential protection,and never formulates and implements effective protection measures.On the other hand,the economic benefits of land resources in urban centers,the applicability of modern life and other issues also led to the rapid demise of the traditional residential.The protection of traditional houses in Xi’an is awkward and difficult to practice.In 2006,Xi’an government carried out a large-scale survey and record of the traditional houses’ protection,and developed a "Xi’an traditional residential protection list".Unfortunately,protection of these traditional houses which have entered the list of the protection have not been implemented,and they have continued disappearing quickly these ten years.In such an urgent situation,this paper take 2006 "Xi’an traditional residential protection list" as the research object,study in the traditional residential areas and investigate the current preservation situation in depth.On the basis of the previous research results,the change and protection of the traditional houses were recorded in ten years.The method of field observation,record survey,quantitative survey and interview survey were used in the investigation.The investigation mainly concerns the distribution of the area of the Ming City in Xi’an,the whole building and the monomer of the building.The survey content for traditional residential consists of space distribution,number of existing,existing function,preservation of the integrity,protection state,the removal time and causes of the demolition houses;individual investigation content for every compound consists of the historical background,courtyard’s actuality,monomer construction status,functions of property rights division and courtyard change situation.The results of the general investigation and analysis of the traditional residential protection in Xi’an are worrying.The quantity and quality of the traditional houses are significantly decreased.Half of these traditional houses in list have been demolished,while the preservation of existing traditional residential is in poor condition.At last,the author puts forward the suggestions on the protection of traditional folk houses in Xi’an by summarizing and analyzing.The purpose of this paper is to record,collate,improve and preserve the traditional residential information,to reflect the current traditional residential preservation status in the list in Xi’an currently,to collect a more comprehensive and true traditional houses data which is expected to become the research foundation of the Xi’an cultural heritage’s protection,and to provide the basis for the formulation of the traditional houses protection policy in the future.
