The green renovation of existing buildings is the key to realizing the sustainable development of the AEC industry. It is necessary to conduct the green evaluation in the pre-retrofit phase to ensure the rationality of the retrofit scheme and improve the existing building environment effectively. However, there are many problems in the existing green evaluation system for building retrofit, such as the scattered sources of building information and the low standardization level of the evaluation rules, etc. Thus, the evaluation process can often be labor-consuming and with low efficiency, which consequently impede the popularization of the green retrofit and the green evaluation of the existing buildings renovation. It is urgent to establish an intelligent evaluation system to optimize the evaluation process, and improve its automation level. To this end, this research puts forward an existing building green retrofitting evaluation system taking advantage of the powerful information integration ability of BIM technology and the unstructured information expression ability of ontology.Based on the theoretical research of ontology and BIM,the combination of the "Evaluation Standard for Green renovation of existing buildings GB/T 51141-2015" and BIM was studied. The evaluation provisions were classified according to the way of obtaining evaluation information.Besides, the detailed analysis of the LOD requirements for the BIM mode with regard to different kinds of provisions was conducted. Then, the existing buildings green retrofit evaluation ontology model is constructed based on protégé 5.5.0,and the complex reasoning rules were established using SWRL rules followed by the transformation of evaluation provisions from natural language to logical language. After the information extracted from BIM tools was fed into the ontology mode, reasoning could be completed with drools rule engine. Finally, the green evaluation of a rural house renovation scheme in central Shandong province was carried out through the established system. The evaluation efficiency is greatly improved, and the feasibility and effectiveness of the system was verified. The results show that the proposed intelligent evaluation system can effectively make up for the limited experience of the the evaluation personnel, promote the evaluation process, and thus facilitate the sustainable development of the construction industry.
