Development Of Western Urban Morphology In Contemporary Chinese Context

In the past few decades,while Chinese urban construction has made remarkable achievements,it has also sacrificed the local characteristics and environmental quality of cities.With Chinese urbanization entering the stage of "stock" optimization of pursuing quality,adjustment and improvement from "incremental" development,the future urban construction will gradually incline to the urban protection and urban regeneration based on the reuse of the original urban resources,and point to new development goals.Urban morphology,an important urban theory that flourished in Europe in the middle of last century,embodies the valuable experience and theoretical achievements of western countries in urban expansion,urban reconstruction,urban renewal and protection,etc,and can not only help to reflect on past problems and the insufficiency of urban development in our country,but can provide strategic guidance on the future development of the city.On the other hand,original tools applied to urban practice,such as regulatory plan,etc,have been unable to adapt to delicate demand of the urban construction in the future,and urban design on the premise of analysis and study of the existing environment will play a more detailed and comprehensive role in urban construction but its analysis and design method of complex problems,history and culture and social structure of the existing environment need to be adjusted and perfected by the new theory.The theory of urban morphology is an in-depth analysis of the role and influence of historical,cultural and social factors in the evolution and development of urban form,which has many unexplored positive significance and application value in the future urban design practice of China.There are six chapters:The first chapter is "introduction",which expounds the background,purpose,method and framework of this research,and reviews the domestic and foreign research progress.The second chapter,"the development of western urban morphology theory",briefly traces the theoretical origin and development of urban morphology,and summarizes and analyzes the current research direction and hot spots of international urban morphology.The third chapter is "urban morphology in western city practice".By showing the application of urban morphology theory in western city practice,it discusses its practical application in identifying specific urban characteristics,controlling development of urban form and guiding construction of urban environment.The fourth and fifth chapters are the core of this paper.The fourth chapter is "the value of urban morphology theory in contemporary chinese urban development",this part from the background and problems of the current city development in our country,based on the basic theory of urban morphology value,discusses its value of the three aspects in Chinese future,"to regain city identity,maintaining the urban heritage and historical context","to guide urban development,providing morphological perspective and experience" and "to guide local creation,promoting exchange among different agents",as well as possible extension of theory in the context of China.The fifth chapter is "the value of urban morphology theory to contemporary urban design in China".This part focuses on the urban design practice,firstly summarizing the staged problems and needs of the development of Chinese contemporary urban design,and then points out the urban morphology can provide theoretical support of morphological analysis,tool basis of quantitative analysis and ideas inspiration of integrating into the management for the urban design.Finally,on the basis of the preliminary research and the later design of urban design,the paper discusses the implications of the theoretical methods of the English school and the Italian school.The sixth chapter is "conclusion",which summarizes the core conclusions and important viewpoints of this study.
