Tsingtao, was a natural fish village in history, which was turned into a"city"by the government of Qing dynasty for coast defence. Later, Germen colonists accelerated its transformation from a village into a city through their urban planning and it grew up in a very short period. After establishment of our country, especially after reform and opening up, this city had developed into single-pole and multi-center structure from the single-pole and center structure in just 30 years. And now it has been a multi-pole and center city. The impetuses for its rapid development are correct guide from policies, reasonable planning ideas and good historic opportunities and so on.Although history of Tsingtao city is only several centuries, during which this city had transited a few times and were governed by different administrative bodies. In this way, the spatial structure morphology of this city has turned out different shapes with different periods. And all these different spaces form the current collage city.Based on study on construction and development history of Tsingtao city, this dissertation first shows the transition process of city space and explains the mechanism which promotes the transition. And then problems of present city structure morphology are put forward. This dissertation makes further analysis about transition process of spatial shape and structure based on collage city theory and the analysis focuses on characteristics of several main factors of its spatial structure and the relationship between them. In the end, the collage principles and methods for old cities are concluded, the forecast for cities'development is interpreted from the view of collage city and guiding advice for the development of Tsingtao is put forward.
