The intensification of aging in China, the shortcomings of social care for the elderly, and the weakness of the family ’s elderly care function have promoted the rapid development of community day care centers. Moreover,Chongqing ’s existing community has outstanding needs for old-age care.Under the guidance of national and local policies,it has become a common phenomenon to use the existing community to rebuild day care centers.Public space is the main place for the elderly to communicate and be an important space for remodeling design. However, due to the difference in the form, size, environment, and structural limitations of the existing space, there is a lack of targeted reconstruction design guidance. At present, the existing research results are mainly concentrated on: site planning and architectural design for overall renovation, integration of medical and nursing care, fire evacuation, and aging reconstruction.Under such a large background,it is of great practical significance to conduct targeted research on the public space design of the existing community commercial remodeling day care center to improve space efficiency and improve the spiritual and cultural life quality of the elderly. For the reconstruction design of public space when the existing community business is reused as a day care center,on the basis of mastering the relevant construction standards of the day care center and the current status of the existing community business,it combines with relevant theories to explore the space reconstruction design problems and conflicts, and to propose specific methods of design alterations.First of all,by combing the relevant literature of domestic and foreign day care centers, the research foundation is laid.Secondly,it analyzes and summarizes the formation, development and construction standards of the day care center public space at home and abroad and Chongqing, and summarizes the particularity and design influencing factors of such space-related standards in Chongqing. At the same time, the research analyzes the current development status of the existing community business, and summarizes the existing layout relationship, plane form and scale, and original functions that affect the space reconstruction design of such facilities. Then, introduce organic renewal,Maslow’s demand level, and communication and space theory, establish a research framework, and conduct on-site investigations based on theoretical research. It summarizes the activity behavior characteristics and space needs of the elderly in the existing community, and analyzes the status quo problems and contradictions of the activities of the elderly and the space reconstruction of such facilities in terms of location and function, space organization, use of streamlines, space environment, and structural limitations, and proposes the direction of reconstruction design. In response to such problems, the principles of taking old as the foundation, adapting to local conditions, integrity and refinement should be followed.Combined with relevant standards and excellent case experience, the following strategies are proposed. As a premise of reconstruction design, the location and function should be reasonably matched;the spatial organization as the core should be related to the existing community system, reasonable and orderly;the streamlined sight as the support, should be open;as a supplement to the space environment, attention should be paid to the physical environment,barrier-free and interface details. In the face of structural limitations, careful consideration should be given to the actual situation of existing spaces.Combined with the actual reconstruction design case, the research conclusion is confirmed.
