Study On The Expression Of Place Spirit In The Design Of Guilin Contemporary City Square

The City square is a public space that reflects the history and the culture of the city.It not only has material functions such as leisure,assembly,and entertainment,but also has a social function of recording the city history,include inheriting regional culture and propaganda.The spirit of the place is the emotional experience from people when he is in a specific space and the significance place.The expression of the spirit of the place directly affects the meaning and value of the design of the city square.In the current era of rapid urban economic development,people’s demand for urban squares is not limited to the satisfaction of material functions,but more is the exploration and pursuit of the inner spiritual world.However,in recent years,as the development of urban planning,the construction of urban squares has experienced a crisis of characteristics.The design of the squares deviates from the natural and historical characteristics of a particular area of the city,and affects people’s identification with the city image.Guilin is well-known both at home and abroad for its landscaping characteristics,and it is also an ancient cultural city with a history of more than 2,000 years.The construction of its city square should promote the promotion of the city’s image.Based on this,this article takes Guilin City Square as the research object,and points out that it is necessary to continue and protect the urban context through the shaping of the spirit of the place,and to retrieve the sense of direction and identity of people’s perception of the city image.This study based on cultural sociology and environmental psychology and other related disciplines,through literature research,case studies and field investigations and other research methods,explain how the spirit of place should be expressed in the design of Guilin City Square.The study is divided into six chapters.The first chapter introduction,points out the current problems in the design process of urban squares,and proposes the purpose,scope and ideas of the thesis research.The second chapter mainly expounds the basic concepts and spirits of urban squares and places Characteristics,and the relationship between the spirit of the place and the landscape design of the city square.The third chapter summarizes the development and changes of modern city squares in Guilin,selects the main city squares in the urban area of Guilin for analysis,and points out the problems in the construction process,and analyze the cause of the problem,and then lead to the direction of expression of the spirit of the place in Guilin City Square.The fourth chapter proposes the expression of the spirit of the place in Guilin City Square based on the above research,including related design goals,design principles and design methods.In order to provide methodological support for the next step of design practice research.The fifth chapter takes the relevant plots in the scope of Guilin’s tourism development planning as the base of the design practice,around the expression strategy of the spirit of the place,the theoretical summary and methods are applied to Detailed empirical analysis in design practice and application.The sixth chapter of the research results will be summarized and refined,pointed out that the expression of the spirit of the city square place has targeted and practical,and proposed the idea of design and development prospect of the city square.
