Since the reform and opening up,the modernization of Chinese cities has entered a fast track.Modernist architecture has become the darling of China’s "modern cities".A large number of traditional houses that do not conform to the "modern temperament" have been demolished, and the regional context of traditional houses is on the verge of breaking.Due to the existence of urban-rural dual structure barriers, rural areas retain the genes and bloodlines of traditional residential culture to a greater extent, and are a place of hope for the inheritance and innovation of traditional residential culture. This study takes Changzhou as an example. From the perspective of residential building forms,it is found that due to the chaotic and inconsistent research on the residential building forms of Changzhou, the lack of deep understanding of the characteristics of local residences has led to Morphological transformation and building renovation work have brought adverse effects.Based on the above reality and problems, the main body of this study is divided into the following three parts. The first part mainly studies the background of the era of the traditional architectural form of Changzhou residential buildings, mainly including four aspects.First, the background of natural geography was studied.Secondly,it studies the commercial and cultural background, focusing on the most representative residential settlements—the overall spatial layout of towns and cities, and the spatial relationship between official roads, markets, rivers, and residential buildings in this context. The background of political etiquette and ethics is studied, and the focus is on the possibility that the behavior of Chonggu ritual of the Changzhou school leads local residents to adopt a gap between the qualified bureau and the even number.Fourthly,it studies the material foundation background, and reveals the inherent logic of Changzhou residential building materials selection by connecting the contents of natural geographical background and commercial cultural background. The second part is one of the key points of this research, which is to systematically and completely reveal the characteristics of the traditional architectural form of Changzhou residential buildings.First, the form of space. It mainly explains the diversity of the way of large-scale residential and residential building groups, the flexibility of the spatial layout of small residential houses, the regularity and divergence of the building roof truss, and the randomness of the plane scale.Second, the roof form. The research focuses on the regional characteristics of the roof slope, the roof closing method of the tile roof, and the shape of the roof ridge.Third, the wall shape. It mainly studies the modeling rules of single-screen screen walls, the setting of multi-level screen walls and the types of wall styles, and creatively explores the differential expression and formation of local Guanyin pockets and similar models.Fourth, doors and windows. In terms of the door, starting from the overall shape of the door,a new system of door classification for local dwellings has been creatively established;while the aspect of the window has greatly supplemented the expression of window shapes in different positions, shapes and spatial attributes. The third part is the design practice part of this research. On the basis of the above research, combined with relevant design principles and methodologies,a small ordinary natural village in Changzhou was selected for research. After a detailed analysis of the village topography, roads, dwelling age, dwelling style, dwelling size and other related status quo to form the overall positioning of the village style, take two of them as an example to carry out specific transformation and update design.
