China-US Conflict On Energy Security And Energy Cooperation

China and the United States are two major countries in energy consuming and energy importing in the world.Their respective energy security strategies and energy cooperation trend between both sides have a profound impact on the international energy pattern and market stability.China and the United States have been cooperated more than 40 years in terms of energy cooperation.Some achievements were made during the period but it is not very smooth in aspects of core issues and overall progress.There are two major conflicts in energy security between China and the United States.One is about the essential difference of energy security concept.China’s concept of energy security is "development,cooperation and win-win ",whereas American’s concept of energy security is "development,control,and hegemony ".The second is the energy geopolitical conflict between China and the United States.With the victory of the " Shale Revolution ",United States has taken a more dominant position in energy cooperation,which became the biggest variable affecting China’s energy security.Moreover,it also is mixed with the bilateral pattern upgradation of competition between China and America,South China Sea dispute,and energy transport channel issues.United States tries to contain China by using energy geopolitics.Although conflict in energy security is inevitable,China-US energy cooperation is also logical and well-reasoned.As the energy issues are becoming complex,mixed with climate issues,geopolitical issues,terrorism issues,and resource nationalism,it becomes complex energy security issues.Even as strong as America,it is difficult for a country to do much single-handed.In order to maintain stability in the international energy market and safeguard the smooth passage of energy transport by sea,the United States has no choice but to abandon contradictions,put aside conflicts,work together,and address the complex international energy landscape.Taking the current most concerned new energy issues as the main direction,in-depth cooperation should be carried out.Based on China’s huge new energy demand,its new energy development model should be promoted,shared and tested so as to enhance the strategic advantages of sustainable development while to jointly promote policy synergy between China and the United States on global climate governance issues.China-US energy cooperation,especially in the field of new energy promotes the transformation of International energy consumption structure and energy pattern towards a bright path of sustainable development.Finally,the global climate governance and environmental protection mechanism construction can be improved and the common interests of all nations of the world can be maintained.
