| With the technological revolution and industrial transformation,the global innovation landscape is undergoing changes.To win in the international competition,an innovation ecosystem must be built so that firms can be embedded in a multi-agent network to exert synergies.On the one hand,it’s necessary to strengthen the integration of the industrial and innovation chain;on the other hand,it is necessary to focus on the virtual industrial clusters in the globalization industrial network.The innovation ecosystem comprises knowledge and business ecosystem,and its inter-organizational connections form a complex interactive network.However,existing research is either focusing on certain perspective of knowledge or business,or focuses on a certain level of macro-environment or micro-individuals’analysis.There is a lack of discussion on the interaction mechanism of technology and market in the innovation ecosystem from the meso-level.In-depth understanding of how technology and market linkages affect firm innovation,and how virtual industrial clusters affect firm innovation in the complex interactive innovation ecosystem network is of great significance of revealing the law of the innovation ecosystem.The following two research questions are deeply explored based on the multi-source heterogeneous network data:How to identify and analyze the innovation communities in the multi-layer innovation ecosystem?How the innovation community in the innovation ecosystem impact the firm’innovation performance?This paper explores these issues by two sub-researches.The first sub-research proposes a multi-layered innovation ecosystem analysis framework.Based on this framework,a case study of CNC machine tool industry was conducted for demonstration.The second sub-research constructs a conceptual model of the impact mechanism of knowledge-business community on firm’innovation from the two dimensions of within-community and cross-community connections.This paper constructs business and knowledge networks using social network analysis,and further analyzed by negative binomial regression analysis to test the research hypothesis.Drawing on the above research,some conclusions can be presented as follows:First,the case study of CNC machine tool industry validates the disconnection between the knowledge and the business ecosystem.Second,the within-knowledge community connections have a significant positive impact on the innovation performance,and the cross-knowledge community connections have a significant negative impact on the innovation performance.Third,the within-business community connections have a significant negative impact on the innovation performance,and the cross-business community connections have a significant positive impact on the innovation performance.Fourth,the interaction between the cross-knowledge and cross-business connections have a significant negative impact on the innovation performance.This paper conducts some theoretical innovations as follows:on the one hand,this research bridges the separation of knowledge economy and commercial economy in the existing innovation ecosystem research,and enriches the theoretical basis of technology and market interaction in the innovation ecosystem;on the other hand,it reveals the mechanism of innovation community on firm innovation at the meso level.It bridges macro and micro analysis,and provides an important research perspective for follow-up research.In addition,this research provides policy implications for innovation ecosystem building and innovation-driven development in China. |
