The mountainous area of our country accounts for about two-thirds of the country’s total land area,and there are a large number of middle schools located in mountainous area.With the government ’s increasing emphasis on basic education and the improvement of living standard,people have higher standards and requirements for teaching and learning environments.The original mountainous middle schools ’ environment in China has been unable to meet the functional and spiritual needs of teachers and students in this new era.However,it is facing a number of problems such as the incompatibility of the mountain natural environment,the dull campus architecture,the monotonous campus planning,the unobvious mountain characteristics,and the lack of local culture.At the same time,there are problems with scarce resources and undulating terrain.Therefore,the focus of this article is to integrate spatial adaptability into the mountainous middle school renovation design,optimizing the spatial environment of mountainous middle schools to meet the updated teaching requirements and construction standards,re-energizing the campus vitality.Firstly,this article defines the concept of the mountainous middle school,clarifies the scope of the research,and summarizes the current research worldwide.Secondly,it analyzes the spatial classifications,constituent elements,spatial characteristics,factors affecting the optimal design of the mountain middle school,and clarifies the emphasis of the mountain middle school renovation design.Thirdly,it evaluates its current situation and clarifies the problems by investigating the campus of Guojiaba Middle School in Zigu Country,Yichang,Hubei Province,by combining the AHP analytic method to establish a school status quo evaluation system.It analyzes the case of domestic excellent mountain middle school campus space,and provides a reference for school renovation.Finally,based on preliminary research and comprehensive architecture,planning,landscape and other disciplines,it is proposed that the school renovation design of mountain middle schools should be adaptively designed based on the concept of campus space planning and renovation,the principle relationship between land use and mountain space,the excavation and extraction of school building materials and colours,the overall school building and space adaptability,the composite building function and space adaptability,and adaptive design.This article combines theory with practice,and conducted empirical research on the school renovation design project of Guojiaba Middle School in Zigui County.
