Research About Factors Influencing Primary School Students "Active School Travel"-based On Anaysis Of Space Around School

Primary student’s school travel issues have gotten widely concern in China recently. For instance, traffic congestion problem outside of school gate, potential security problem when school travel is taken etc. While this paper introduces a concept named "Active school travel" and the key point of this paper is discussing the reason why more and more primary school students intend to choose some inactive travel mode such us private car etc. to accomplish their school travel in urban space in China.The definition of "Active school travel" is using active transport tool such as walking or cycling etc. to school travel. A large abundant of relevant researches have been widely taken in the world; Nevertheless, this study in China is still in its beginning stage. This paper aims at analyzing the condition of active school travel in China and aboard, influencing factors of active school travel and the relationship between space around school and active school travel after introducing the concept, as well as analyzing active school travel based on parsing built environment around primary school.Specifically speaking, first, this paper made a carding research about the definition of active school travel, using the methodologies such us literature review to demonstrate the significance of AST (active school travel) and discussing relevant influencing factors. Then, this paper used analytic hierarchy process to build an AST influencing indicator model, owing to clarify the weight value difference of each influencing factor. Secondly, this paper discussed the socioeconomic relevant factors and built environment relevant factors respectively based on weight value analyzing result. Including using questionnaire survey to three primary schools’students and their parents to analyze socioeconomic factors(Primary school of Hefei university of Technology, Benbu No.1 experimental primary school and Benbu No.3 experimental primary school);meanwhile, using methods including space syntax and field survey to analyze the space features of four primary schools(Hefei Lu’an road primary school, Xiao Yaojin primary school, Tunxi Road primary school and primary school of Hefei Normal University).Discussing the space feature which is suitable for AST in urban area through analyzing including school catchment space study in new and old city zone and the space outside of school gate. At last, this paper summarized the discussions of this study and gave some advices about AST in China as well as gave the prospect for the future study of this topic.
