Enhance The Nature:Biophilic Design For Healing Hospital Environment

This paper presents the application of biophilic principles in architectural design of Hospital whose applicability is healing through design.It highlights the Biophilic design principles necessary to achieve environmentally-friendly indoor and outdoor environment in hospital design.The aim of the research is therefore to develop a theoretical solutions as well as design solutions by enhancing human health and recovery through biophilic design approaches.To describe the relationships between variables,a qualitative case study of three hospitals that suggested the use of biophilic design principles and which are in the area as the field of study was conducted.In performing the case study survey of all the selected events,visual surveys,interviews and checklist methods were all used.In order to improve human health and rehabilitation in hospitals,the overall thesis researched and implemented various biophilic design concepts.The study showed that the environmental impact of the built environment has been minimized by the mass paradigm of green architecture,but the achievement of reconnecting people to the natural world is still lost in the mystery of sustainability.The study showed that nature is fundamental to human health and intellectual,emotional and spiritual well-being,both conceptually and architecturally.Humanity develops by adaptation to natural environments and stimuli,including sunlight,plants,animals,water,and landscapes.An alternative approach to architectural designs in developing countries such as Ethiopia could be the biophilic architecture theory.Henceforth the environment was considered therapeutic and could affect people’s health and help their recovery.The very concept of biophilic nature was originally born out of the knowledge that the mind and the human body evolve inside a "sensorially rich world"The aim is to pursue an urbanization which is not in conflict with the natural environment,perhaps by adopting,on the one hand,the best intuitions of well-established urban planning and,on the other,of urban landscape.The research concluded that the solutions to healing through design demand in architectural design can be achieved by enhancing the use of nature in hospital design and Biophilia.Furthermore the extension of biophilic design are major importance in healthcare centers,clinics,and hospitals,particularly due to the obvious disconnection that many have with the natural environment in modern urbanized areas.
