With the continuous growth of car ownership in China,the problem of traffic congestion is becoming more and more serious.As an important node of urban road network,the optimization of intersection operation state is helpful to improve the traffic efficiency of the whole road network.In recent years,more and more attention has been paid to the emergence and application of unconventional signalized intersections in China.In this paper,taking the intersection with reversing variable lane as the research object,presents an optimization scheme to solve the problems existing in the intersection with reversing variable lane,and traffic simulation is carried out through VISSIM.This paper analyzes the influence of different setting parameters on the traffic efficiency of the intersection,and then obtains the optimal setting scheme of the intersection with reversing variable lane.The main research contents and achievements are as follows:(1)Through the investigation of the type of intersection,the setting of the reversing variable lane,the signal control of the intersection,the traffic characteristics of vehicles and the setting of signs and markings,this paper obtains the current situation and problems of the intersection with reversing variable lane.The VISSIM simulation model and the traffic efficiency evaluation method of the intersection with reversing variable lane were established,and the reliability of the simulation model was verified by comparing the simulation results with the actual investigation results.(2)According to the existing problems of the intersection with reversing variable lane,this paper considers three setting parameters: the number of the reversing variable lane,the length of the reversing variable lane and the signal timing of the intersection,and uses the VISSIM simulation test to study the influence of setting parameters on the left turn traffic and the traffic efficiency of the whole intersection.The results show that Webster timing optimization,the increase of the number of reversing variable lanes and the adjustment of the length of reversing variable lanes can improve the traffic efficiency.The influence of timing optimization is the most significant,followed by increasing the number of reversing variable lanes,and the influence of the length of reversing variable lanes is more complex.Then the optimal setting scheme can reduce the left turn traffic delay by 68~87%,and reduce the intersection traffic delay by 66~79%.(3)Based on the geometric restriction and control principle of the intersection,this paper proposes the conditions and requirements of the setting of reversing variable lane,and presents the setting method of the length of the reversing variable lane that can adapt to the left turn traffic volume,then the optimization of main and pre signal control and the setting method of intersection marking were determined,according to the changing law of traffic flow characteristics of the intersection with reversing variable lane.This paper provides a reference for the parameters and optimization of the reversing variable lane at the intersection,which could play a positive role in the promotion and application of the reversing variable lane in Chinese cities.
