The high-quality development of China’s economy is inseparable from the transformation and upgrading of industrial structure,and transportation infrastructure plays a crucial role in promoting China’s economic development and industrial structure upgrading.As a high-tech emerging product in the new era,high-speed railway has promoted the transformation and upgrading of China’s industrial structure to a great extent.It is of great theoretical and practical significance to study the effect and mechanism of high-speed railway on industrial structure upgrading.This paper systematically sorts out the theories and literatures related to high-speed railway development and industrial structure upgrading,and analyzes the influence mechanism of high-speed railway on industrial structure upgrading from two aspects of direct influence and indirect influence.On the basis of the above theoretical analysis,this paper sorted out the number of high-speed railway lines,the number of high-speed railway stations,operating mileage of high-speed railway in each province and autonomous region from 2008 to 2018,and calculated the high-speed railway development level index in each province and autonomous region through entropy method.Taking the high-speed railway development level index as the core explanatory variable,industrial structure elevation and industrial structure rationalization as explained variables,economic development level,regional development scale and human capital level as threshold variables,this paper establishes a panel threshold model for threshold regression to explore the non-linear relationship between high-speed railway development and industrial structure upgrading.The results show that:(1)The development of high-speed railway is conducive to the upgrading of China’s industrial structure,but the impact of high-speed railway development on the upgrading of industrial structure will change with the different levels of economic development,regional development scale and human capital level.(2)In the regions with higher economic development level,the influence of high-speed railway development on industrial structure elevation is more significant.(3)When regional development scale is taken as the threshold variable,there is an N-shaped correlation between the industrial structure elevation and the high-speed railway development.(4)In the regions with low human capital level and small regional development scale,the influence of high-speed railway development on the rationalization of industrial structure is more significant.On the basis of the above panel threshold model,this paper takes capital flow,labor flow and technological innovation level as mediating variables,builds a mediating effect test model to test the influence mechanism of high-speed railway development on industrial structure upgrading.The results show that:(1)When industrial structure elevation is taken as the explained variable,capital flow,labor flow and technological innovation all have partial mediating effects between high-speed railway development and industrial structure elevation.(2)The capital flow and technological innovation driven by highspeed railway have an insignificant positive effect on the industrial structure rationalization,while the labor flow driven by high-speed railway has an insignificant negative effect on the industrial structure rationalization.The innovation of this paper mainly lies in the research methods:(1)This paper comprehensively measures the development of high-speed railway by using three indicators such as the operating mileage of high-speed railway,the number of high-speed railway lines and the number of high-speed railway stations,determines the index weight by the improved entropy method,calculates the high-speed railway development level index finally.(2)In this paper,the panel threshold model is used to explore the regional heterogeneity of the impact of high-speed railway on industrial structure upgrading and the nonlinear relationship between them.(3)In this paper,the intermediate effect test model is established to verify the influence mechanism of high-speed railway on industrial structure upgrading.
