The Study Of Veranda In Guangzhou Modern Architecture

Verandas are widely used in modern Guangzhou architecture,covering a wide variety of building types,from official administrative buildings to private independent residences.The dissemination and development of verandas spanned the entire modern period.To this day,verandas are also frequently used facade symbols in buildings.The numerous facades and verandas constitute part of Guangzhou’s unique urban history.Obviously,the study of architectural verandas is of great significance to our understanding of Guangzhou’s modern architecture.Based on a large number of examples,the paper analyzes the layout,facade form,spatial scale and utilization of the veranda from the design level,and analyzes the development of the veranda from the construction level through field investigation and literature research.The structural technology and decorative art of the veranda.On this basis,the three characteristics of the veranda are summarized: diversity,artistry,and regionality.After that,the main problems of the current situation of the veranda are revealed and suggestions for improvement are offered,with a view to the better survival and development of the veranda.The thesis is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is the introduction,expounding the origin and significance of the topic selection,combing the status quo of related research at home and abroad,establishing the research scope through the limitation of research objects and the explanation of related terms,and organizing the framework of the thesis in combination with research methods.Chapter Two shows the development and evolution of the veranda in the course of the modernization of Guangzhou’s urban and architectural transformation.It is divided into three paragraphs to explain the emergence and evolution of the verandas in Macau and the thirteen-hongs in Canton before the Opium War,the development of colonial verandas in Guangzhou after the Opium War to the end of the 19th century,the decline of colonial verandas after the beginning of the 20th century and the continuation of verandas in several main types of buildings.And then the development context and background information are provided.The third and fourth chapters are the key chapters of this article.Based on a large number of research examples,the design and construction techniques of the veranda are explained respectively.The third chapter analyzes the layout,style and main influencing factors of the veranda under the support of sufficient data.It also analyzes the evolution of the use of the veranda in combination with the law of scale changes,and the climate adaptability of the veranda.The fourth chapter focuses on the influence of structural technology on the veranda in terms of scale,form and function,and clarifies the artistic and symbolic significance of the veranda decoration through the decoration materials of the veranda and the characteristics of the veranda decoration of different types of buildings.Based on the above content,a summary is made on the characteristics of the veranda.Chapter 5 is based on the investigation and record of the current situation of the veranda.Aiming to imporve the appearance,use,management,maintenance and safety of the existing veranda,it proposes to renovate the facade,adjust the layout,optimize the path,change the function,increase the height of the railings and so ons.And it is advised to further explore the value of veranda and think more about it contemporary significance at the end of this chapter.
