Research On The Application Of Traditional Window Frame Elements In Modern Product Design

After the development of windows in the Tang and Song Dynasties,the latticework in the window frame,i.e.,the mullion,was endowed with profound cultural connotations,distinctive ideological characteristics of the times,and increasingly rich in style.The exquisite and varied mullion style is the spiritual accumulation of traditional Chinese culture and has become one of the aesthetic centers of architecture,with both practical and artistic values.The study of this paper is divided into four parts.Firstly,the historical origin of traditional mullions is systematically studied.Through documentary materials,extant cultural relics and architectural research,the evolution of mullion forms and styles and their stylistic characteristics in four periods from Spring and Autumn to pre-Song,Song,Ming and Qing dynasties are summarized,and the functions,craftsmanship and materials of mullions are studied.Secondly,the collected mullion pattern data are collated,summarized and classified according to the form,subject matter and symbolic meaning,and user perception evaluation analysis is introduced to rank the importance of mullion patterns with relative criteria based on the criteria of beautiful form and semantic depth.Then,we use shape grammar to extract the core patterns and derive innovative graphics for the top-ranked patterns.Finally,the innovative design and application of the graphics derived from the mullion pattern is practiced.Combining with the characteristics of the mullion,the design principles of dismantling and reconstructing are used to combine the graphics and products organically according to different products.Mullion is an important component of traditional Chinese architectural components and a concentrated embodiment of traditional Chinese culture,which is an irreproducible and irreplaceable humanistic art.With the change of times,the rapid development of modern glass curtain wall buildings has made the mullion lose its bearing,while people also gradually lose interest in traditional mullion.In this paper,by systematically collating the development source of traditional window lattices,summarizing the data of window lattice patterns,screening design materials,deriving innovative graphics and applying product design,we help the organic combination of window lattice patterns and modern products.It is done to enhance the product quality and promote the traditional culture,providing new inspiration for the inheritance and development of mullion culture.
