Comparative Study On Traditional Residential Buildings Of Gaoshan Yao And Pingdi Yao In Jianghua County

Jianghua Yao Autonomous County is the county with the largest population among the 13 Yao Autonomous Counties in China.It is loca ted in the southernmost part of Hunan Province,bordering Guangdong and Guangxi.It has a long history and unique ethnic culture,and is known as the "Yao capital of China".The terrain of Jianghua county is unique,with steep mountains in the East and fla t hills in the West.They both belong to the Jianghua Yao nationality and have the same historical and cultural background,but they show great differences in residential buildings.This paper makes a deep thinking on these differences and carries out a de tailed study accordingly.This paper can be divided into four parts.First of all,this paper combs the research purpose,theory and framework,as well as the geographical location,natural environment,ethnic profile,religious beliefs,folk customs and o ther natural and cultural background of the Jianghua Yao nationality,which lays the research foundation.Secondly,we have carried out field investigation and villagers’ visit to 16 traditional Yao villages and buildings in Jianghua County,and completed the surveying and mapping survey of many traditional residential buildings.We have sorted out and compared the characteristics of Gaoshan Yao and Pingdi Yao residential buildings in Jianghua county from four aspects: location layout,plane shape and funct ion distribution,structural materials and morphological details,It is found that they are different.Third,it analyzes the reasons for the differences between the two Yao dwellings,and explores the relationship between them and the natural environment,economic development and cultural exchanges,so as to provide the basis for the follow-up protection strategies.Finally,based on the above research results,respect the local environment for targeted protection,realize the inheritance and protection of Jianghua Yao architectural culture.
