As China enters a new era of new urbanization and the development of ecological civilization, the rural areas,as the region with the closest relationship between human society and the natural environment,is constantly being affected by various internal and external factors, and being requested to achieve high-quality development and improve adaptability. As a socially and economically developed area in China,Suzhou has a relatively high level of rural development. While developing, rural areas in Suzhou are also facing a series of problems such as the decline of the rural social network structure, the restriction of land resources on industrial development, and insufficient utilization of ecological environment protection.Due to the interdependence between Production-Living-Ecology Space and rural system, exploring the development characteristics and evolution of the "Production-LivingEcology Space " will help to optimize the space scientifically and lay the spatial foundation for the sustainable development of the various elements of the rural system.Firstly,This paper introduces the concept and research summary of Rural ProductionLiving-Ecology Space and Adaptive Cycle Theory, analyzes the characteristic dimensions and evolution stages of Adaptive Cycle of Rural Production-Living-Ecology Space, and constructs a comprehensive evaluation framework.Secondly, this article selects eight villages in Suzhou City as samples for empirical research:(1)In terms of the evaluation of status quo characteristics, this paper evaluates the single-type spatial strength, various spatial transformation measures, and the overall spatial pattern of the sample villages’ Production-Living-Ecology Space in 2018 from the three dimensions of potential, connectivity and resilience. It summarizes the characteristics of the status quo development of each village’s Production-Living-Ecology Space and divides it into stages. The results show that the development of Suzhou’s rural " Production-LivingEcology Space " is relatively high and has a distinct relationship with the regional development model;(2)In terms of evolution process analysis, this paper analyzes the change of each village’s Production-Living-Ecology Space characteristic index and phase evolution during the study period from 2008 to 2018,and concludes that the evolution of Production-LivingEcology Space is driven by factors such as material background, regional economy, actors, government, and markets.Thirdly, this paper classifies and implements policies based on the status quo and evolution of Suzhou Rural Production-Living-Ecology Space at different stages to promote the improvement of adaptability and the sustainable development of Rural ProductionLiving-Ecology Space.
