| Propolis is a resinous material with fragrant smell collected by honeybees from leaf buds and cracks in the bark of various plants and mixed with bee enzymes.Propolis has a wide range of pharmacological activities,such as anti-bacterial,anti-viral,anti-oxidant,anti-inflammatory,anti-tumor etc.Propolis is widely used in food and health products to prevent disease and promote health.Previous experiments showed that Chinese populus propolis exhibited good anti-tumor activity.However,the anti-tumor bioactive components and mechanisms of propolis have not been fully understood.In the present paper,we chose Chinese populus propolis as object and studied its(1)anti-tumor bioactive components,(2)the interaction of the bioactive components on anti-tumor activity,(3)the effects of different extraction methods on anti-tumor activity of these components,and(4)the mechanisms of these bioactive components on inhibiting tumor cells proliferation.The results are as follows:1.The anti-tumor bioactive components of Chinese populus propolis are mainly flavonoids and esters,such as galangin,apigenin,chrysin,caffeic acid benzyl ester,caffeic acid phenethyl ester and pinocembrin.2.The interaction of bioactive components of Chinese populus propolis on anti-tumor activity is complicated,but its anti-tumor activity is mainly determined by the types and content of these bioactive components.The anti-tumor activity effects mainly depends on the types of these bioactive components and higher content of them,the two factors are both indispensable.3.Different extraction methods affect the content of anti-tumor bioactive components of Chinese populus propolis,so it is very important to choose the right extraction method for propolis to exert its anti-tumor effect.4.The inhibitory mechanisms of the anti-tumor bioactive components in propolis on different tumor cells indicate that the anti-tumor bioactive components of propolis mainly exert their effects by inhibiting the invasion and metastasis of tumor cells,promoting the production of reactive oxygen species and mitochondrial damage in tumor cells,which induces apoptosis of tumor cells.In addition to promoting the apoptosis of tumor cells,other anti-tumor mechanisms of bioactive components of propolis need to be further studied. |
