A Brief History of Mooncakes,A Brief History of Ancient Express and A Brief History of Anti-epidemic in Ancient Times, three chapters from Hou Yinguo’s Ages Apart,Customs Shared: Details of Ancient Cultural Changes, are extracted as translation materials by the translator. These view that China is the birthplace of mooncake, describe the basic situation of the two express routes in ancient China, and draw on the practical experience of anti-epidemic in ancient China.Based on ancient customs and reality, there are many hot topics in the contemporary era, which helps Chinese and foreign readers to re-examine our ancient Chinese culture and customs.Ages Apart,Customs Shared, with a strong Chinese cultural flavor, has lots of polysemous words, long sentences with multiple verbs,idioms,culture-loaded words, pronoun references and many poems and titles.Under the guidance of Ecotranslatology theory, combined with the characteristics of the source text, this paper divides the above translation difficulties into three dimensions: linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions. The translator adopts translation methods, such as literal translation, free translation, and recreation, supplemented by division, annotation, shift and omission to improve the quality of translation.Through this translation practice, the following conclusions are drawn: the cultural text should not only pass on the cultural background and meaning to the target readers, but also pay attention to the transformation of communicative dimension to achieve the purpose of cross-cultural communication.Through discussion of the three-dimensional transformation problems in Ages Apart,Customs Shared, the translator summarizes the translation methods that can be used in the cultural texts under the guidance of three-dimensional transformation, hoping to provide a reference for the Chinese-English translation practice for other translators. |
