A Comparison Of Chinese And Thai Mammal Idioms

Idioms are important language expressions in both Thai and Chinese.They show profound truth in very short language and reflect the characteristics of Chinese and Thai language and culture.Among many types of idioms,animal idioms are more distinctive,because animals and human beings have a very close relationship,can be human food,partners or tools,can bring great value to people and society.Because there are many types of animals,this paper narrows the scope to mammals,including elephants,tigers,cattle,dogs,pigs,horses,cats and monkeys.The first chapter introduces the origin and significance of this study,the second chapter introduces the general situation of Tai-Han idioms,the third chapter analyses the image and implication of Tai-Han mammal idioms,the fourth chapter analyses the cultural connotation of Tai-Han mammal idioms,and the last chapter introduces the Enlightenment of teaching Chinese as a foreign language.I hope that through this study,we can promote cultural exchanges between China and Thailand,and let more people understand the characteristics of Thai and Chinese culture.
