The Influence Of Background Color And Music On Facial Emotion Recognition

The research on emotion influencing cognition has always been the hot spot in the field of psychology.However,it is only in recent years that researchers have begun to pay attention to facial emotions.Facial emotion is the external expression of an individual’s inner emotional experience,and it’s particularly important to quickly and effectively recognize other people’s face emotion in the process of interpersonal communication.In fact,both color and music have positive and negative emotional metaphorical meanings,and they are important stimuli in recognizing Facial emotion.In this study,we explored the influence of background color and music on emotional face recognition and memory.The first experiment studied the influence of background color on the recognition of emotional faces.On the basis of experiment 1,background music was introduced to explore the interaction effect of color and music in the second experiment,and the effects of perceptual load,emotional valence of face and background color on face memory were further studied in the third experiment.The results showed that:(1)There was a significant difference in the pleasantness percentage of neutral face recognition under different background colors,it’s highest on red and lowest on blue.The positive emotional faces were the fastest to respond correctly on a red background and slowest on a blue background;Negative faces were just the opposite.(2)When stimulated by background music and background color at the same time,the main effect of background color on the happy percentage of neutral face recognition was significant,while the main effect of background music was not significant,and there was a significant interaction between background color and music.Meanwhile,for different emotional face recognition,both of background music’s and color’s main effect were significant,while facial emotion’s was not.There were significant interaction between background music and color,between background and facial emotion,but the interaction between background color and facial emotion was not significant.The triple interaction did not exist among three variables.(3)In the face memory process,the main effects of perceptual load and emotional valence of Face on accuracy were significant,while background color’s main effect was not significant.The interactions between perceptual load and facial emotion,between emotional potency and background color were significant,the interaction between perceptual load and background color was borderline significant,and the triple interaction among perceptual load,face emotional potency and background color was not significant.
