A Report On The Translation Of Campus News Of Tianjin University From The Prospective Of Skopos Theory

With the rise of China’s comprehensive national strength,Chinese universities have gradually emerged in the international arena.Foreign propaganda is becoming increasingly prominent for China’s universities.It is urgent for them to improve the quality of the English campus news.However,the English news of some universities is too poor to achieve the goal of information delivery or the foreign publicity.How to improve the quality of them has become a research subject of great theoretical and practical importance.In Oct.,2017,on the recommendation of the College,the author joined the International Media Center of Tianjin University.The author participated in the English translation of Tianjin University campus news.During this period,the author compiled more than 10000 words of news,covering activities,scientific research breakthroughs,leaders’ speeches and so on.This practice report is based on the author’s translation practice,and the author used the method of case analysis and summarized how to translate news based on the Skopos theory.This practical report is divided into four parts: The first part is the description of the translation task.In this part,the author introduces the background,the characteristics,the requirement of task and the significance of the task research.The second part is the description of the translation process.In this part,the author introduces the preparation before translation,translation and the post-translation review process.The third part is case analysis.In this part,the author uses case analysis method to summarize the application of the three principles of Skopos theory in campus news translation practice.The last part is a summary,including some of the author’s experience and reflection.This report demonstrates the applicability and guiding role of the three principles of Skopos theory to campus news translation.On the one hand,study on the translation of campus news from the perspective of the three principles of Skopos theory can enrich and expand the application scope of Skopos theory.On the other hand,it can also provide some references for campus news translators.
