| This is a translation report based on the author’s practices of trans-editing 99 pieces of English odd news into Chinese for www.huanqiu.com.In recent years, as Chinese people’s living standards have been increasingly improved, they regard reading relaxing and entertaining soft news as an important part in their leisure lives. Since odd news enriches Chinese people’s lives and broadens their horizons, there is a great demand for trans-editing odd news in foreign languages into Chinese.The report points out that odd news refers to a piece of weird news that could amuse, relax or enlighten readers and includes news regarding social life, news regarding crime and news regarding science. Odd news features on weird, entertaining and amusing contents, as well as relaxing, humorous and vivid language.The report holds that the trans-editing process follows selecting source odd news, reconstructing the information in the source news, rewriting the lead and re-titling the target news. The author met the following difficulties in the course of trans-editing odd new: 1) selecting an appropriate ST; 2) acquiring crucial information and omitting redundant information of ST; 3) restructuring the information of ST; 4) selecting an eye-catching title for TT. According to the Skopos Theory, the author puts forward two trans-editing principles in the process of selecting source odd news: 1) trans-editors should observe China’s news polices; 2) trans-editors should select a piece of news featuring on oddity, amusement and entertainment as source odd news. The report also proposes several trans-editing techniques: 1) trans-editors are supposed to amplify, abridge or convert the information in the source odd news; 2) trans-editors should restructure the information in the source lead or adopt some amusing questions in the target lead in the course of rewriting the lead; 3) trans-editors could title the target odd news by adopting exclamatory sentences or adopting eye-catching expressions(vogue words, Chinese folk sayings, or four-character phrases). |
