Research And Collation Of “Feng Xu Zhi Ming”in Tsinghua Bamboo Slips

The chapter “Feng Xu Zhi Ming” in “Tsinghua University Tibetan Warring States Bamboo Slips(V)” was originally composed of nine pieces of bamboo slips,but the first and fourth pieces are missing.It records the words that the king of Zhou granted Lv Ding to the land of Xu,that is to say,concerning the conferment of Xu Guo during the Western Zhou Dynasty.The king of Zhou conferred Lv Ding on Xu,appointed and admonished him.We can also glimpse the system of appointment and reward in the Western Zhou Dynasty.The king of Zhou conferred Lv Ding and gave a large number of reward items.The content of the article can be verified in many aspects with the ancient books such as Zuozhuan,Guoyu,Shiji,Zhouli and so on.The content of the appointment of Xu can enrich our research on the issue of Xu Guo.In the Western Zhou Dynasty,the appointment and reward system and the feudatory system relied on each other,which strengthened the feudal rule of the king of Zhou over the ruling area.There were abundant records in the handed down documents and the golden materials.The discovery of this article also provided new materials for us to study the appointment and reward system in the Western Zhou Dynasty.This thesis intends to make a theoretical review of the research on the Tsinghua Bamboo Slip“Feng Xu Zhi Ming”.Combining the ancient books and the golden materials,this thesis will further study the appointment of Xu and the appointment and reward system in the Western Zhou Dynasty.This thesis is divided into four chapters.The first chapter is a comprehensive study of the research results of “Feng Xu Zhi Ming” in academic circles,and an intensive interpretation of “Feng Xu Zhi Ming”.The second chapter discusses the situation of the appointment of Xu in the early Western Zhou Dynasty through the Tsinghua Bamboo Slip “Feng Xu Zhi Ming” and the ancient books.Lv Ding,the founder of the Xu,was dispatched to the land of Xu during Zhou Cheng’s reign,and Xu Guo was born.The third chapter analyzes the reward goods and it’s characteristics in different historical periods of the Western Zhou Dynasty from the appoinmet and reward records of the “Feng Xu Zhi Ming” and inscriptions of the Western Zhou DynastyThe fourth chapter summarizes the whole paper,and tries to analyze the time of writing and the circulation of the text of “Feng Xu Zhi Ming”.The text of “Feng Xu Zhi Ming” was written in the early Western Zhou Dynasty,and it is indeed a canonical article in the early Western Zhou Dynasty.It is based on the content and truly reflects the features of Xu Guo’s appointment in the early Western Zhou Dynasty and the characteristics of early Western Zhou Dynasty’s canonical reward.The circulation of this texts is that the article of the early Western Zhou Dynasty spread to the borders of Chu State during the Warring States Period,and was transferred to the Chu’s bamboo clips,forming the text of “Feng Xu Zhi Ming” we see today.Although the Tsinghua Bamboo Slips “Feng Xu Zhi Ming” appeared late,the historical records of the early period of the Western Zhou Dynasty are in line with the historical characteristics of the early Western Zhou Dynasty,so it has great reliability and is of great historical value for the study of Xu Guo in the Western Zhou Dynasty.
