This is a report on the translation of Chapter 5 of The Emanuel Law Outlines Series: Torts,a book written by Steve Emanuel which outlines and explains the important concepts of tort law with cases. The fifth chapter describes the general negligence in Torts. This report makes a brief analysis of the source text, summarizes the two difficult problems encountered in the process of translation, namely, the translation of legal terminology and the translation of attributive clauses, and proposes solutions to them.As to the translation of legal terminology, this report introduces the problems of legal terminology in translation process, and puts forward the translation methods of literal translation, free translation and zero translation. For the translation of attributive clauses, this report proposes three methods: translating into pre-modifier,translating into juxtaposed clauses or sentences and translating into adverbial clauses. The purpose of this report is to summarize the lessons gained from the translation practice and provide reference for the translation of similar texts.
