With increasing globalization and frequent academic and cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries, this translation report takes the social science work written by Andrea Principi,Giovanni lamura and Per H.Jensen as an example to explore the relevant methods for English-Chinese translation of social science texts. At the lexical level, the source text has rich professional vocabularies, abstract nouns and pronouns. At the syntactic level,it has multiple long complicated sentences and passive sentences. At the textual level,it is logical and coherent in structure, syntax and vocabulary.According to Newmark’s text type theory, the original text should belong to informative text.To achieve the ideal effect of cultural exchange and ensure that the impact of the translated text on the target readers is as close as possible to the impact of the original text on the original readers,it is necessary to improve the readability of the translation. Here, communicative translation is mainly adopted. As a social science text, the source text is professional and logical, then three standards were summed up for the translation to realize ideal effect of cultural communication. That is to maintain professionalization, improve readability and enhance logicality.Under the guidance of communicative translation theory, professional and objective ways of expression are adopted to maintain professional style of the original text.To improve the readability of the translation, such translation methods as contextualization, reduction of pronouns, specification and conversion of abstract nouns, and conversion of voice are tried.Sentence segmentation and logical rearrangement are used to enhance the logicality of the translation.
