As one kind of inter-lingual communication activity, interpretation is born with the characteristics of redundancy which is a natural part of language. The requirement for different interpretation activity is different according to distinctive occasions and themes. But they all place huge pressure on an interpreter’s mind and brain resources.Under such heavy pressure,an interpreter,if is not equipped with adequate language resources, falls short of understanding of the speaker’s intention, adding to his/her own language deflects, may cause the problem of redundancy. This thesis takes the case of the lecture made by Ian Newton on “Refugee Problem Against the Backdrop of A Pandemic”.The lecture mainly focuses on United Nation’s agencies in relation to refugee problem and challenges facing refugees after the global outbreak of Covid-19.The interpretation of this lecture is composed of two parts.Writer of this thesis was responsible of the second part of this lecture.During and after the lecture, the problem of interpretation redundancy was obvious. So hereby the writer wants to use the interpretation as a case study to have an insight into her own redundancy problem and provide a reference for other interpreters. The writer begins with a description of the history of the concept of redundancy as well as its development in interpretation.Later, the thesis tries to narrow down the definition of redundancy being discussed. Then the writer notes down several kinds of typical redundancy in the case study and presents a frequency chart. And the last part of the thesis discusses the reasons behind redundancy and tries to give some viable solutions. |
