This paper tries to probe into the strategy for beginners’ redundancy problems in Chinese to English Consecutive Interpreting. As one of beginners, through audio recordings and notes of routine practice from writer and other students, the writer found Chinese to English Consecutive Interpreting is a difficult part for most of beginners. And much redundancy is involved in Chinese to English Consecutive Interpreting. Part of the redundancy is caused by Chinese itself. The other part is from the process of Consecutive Interpreting. The redundancy from the process of Consecutive Interpreting is classified as valid redundancy and invalid redundancy. Valid redundancy helps to interpreting. While, invalid redundancy could lower the interpreting quality, impact the interpreter’s situation, and impede listener’s understanding. The writer mainly focuses on the strategy for dealing with invalid redundancy. The writer analyses the causes of redundancy by three steps, which are original context, note-taking and interpreting process. According to the analyzing factors, the writer provides the corresponding coping strategies.
