This is an interpreting report of an interpretation process at the Convention ofDe Rucci and Forbes. The Chinese speech was not complicated with a clear structurebut it wasn’t too easy neither to finish interpreting without making mistakes, inparticular, redundancies. This paper analyzes on redundancies the interpreter madeand their coping strategies, and offers suggestions in the end for furtherimprovement. Two kinds of redundancies are discussed in the report, one is legitimateredundancies in source language and the other is unnecessary words and fillers theinterpreter made during her work. Several categories are divided for the first kind ofredundancy, including unnecessary nouns, verbs, and modifiers. Fillers and repeatedwords and expressions are the focus of analysis for the second kind of redundancy.Apart from examples and revisions of redundancies, reasons for them are dug out soto offer suggestions for further improvements.Ways of avoiding redundancies, including deletion, concreting andcombination, are offered in this report. Most redundancies were caused bydifferences between Chinese and English and so strategies are offered by analyzingdifferences between Chinese and English. In the end, the report provides other abilities one interpreter need and room forfurther improvement.
