Cross Media Writing:A Study On The Adaptations Of Red Rose And White Rose

As one of he most famous modern Chinese female writer,Eileen Chang’s literary works are favored by the market and recognized by the readers.Her literary works have also been adapted and moved to the screen and stage.One of the most frequently adapted works is the short story Red Rose and White Rose.Since it was published in 1944,with the development of society and the constant changes of mainstream values,the adapters,on the basis of the original works,combined with the context of their times and performed them in different artistic forms.These adapted works not only show a variety of interpretations of the spiritual culture of the original theme at different times but also bring different ways of viewing to the audience.This paper selects four adapted works of Red Rose and White Rose,including film and drama,as the research object.On the basis of deeply combing the novel text,writing background and plot,I participated in the drama adaptation of the novel in the new period.This paper analyzes the interoperability between literary works,films and dramas,and explores the reasons why Red Rose and White Rose has been repeatedly adapted and the historical background.In view of the different art forms of many adaptation-based works,the existing works are analyzed and compared one by one.First explore the convertibility of the text and its characteristics,then compare with all previous adaptation,analyzes the different tie-ins to increase or decrease the content of the original,characters and the theme of change,the narrative features of time and space problems,further research works of different versions of the aesthetic connotation and aesthetic value.The novel Red Rose and White Rose not only has a profound understanding of the themes of love,life and human nature,but also has very strong characteristics of The Times.With the changes of The times in which the creators live,the aesthetic values and values have changed correspondingly,making the adapted works have undergone earth-shaking changes.The interpretation of this work from multiple angles has made it last for a long time.Different versions of the adapted works reflect the life state and spiritual pursuit of the audience in each period of social development.What is more important is that in these adapted works,they also reflect the changes of women’s social status and their influence on love and life over the past hundred years.Through research,this paper attempts to systematically sort out the adaptation works of Red Rose and White Rose in recent decades,and in the process of trying to interpret the adaptation works,further explores how the adaptation of classic literary works and the spiritual pursuit of individuals in the development of the Chinese era can adapt to each other.
