Musicals have increasingly become a common and popular performing arts commodity for Chinese audiences as the music industry has developed in recent years.The musical "Jekyll&Hyde" is known for its ups and downs of the storyline,thrilling suspense,and fierce contradiction of drama tension,in particular the dual personality and self-conflict of the protagonist.The musical was nominated for four Tony Awards,which include one for the best musical script.The musical "Jekyll&Hyde" is based on the novella Dr.Avatar by British writer Stevenson.It has become famous and is touring all over the world because of numerous trials and improvements.The Chinese version of the 2017 Guangzhou musical "Jekyll&Hyde" has gained a strong reputation in the domestic musical market.In terms of script translation,stage impact,actor singing,and costume props,the play is a well-made musical.This article will take the classical passages of Lucy,Jack,and Hyde in the Chinese version of the two Broadway classic musicals "Someone like you" and"Confrontation" as an example.By analyzing and studying the characters’ image shaping and Chinese singing skills,this paper reveals that singing is not only an essential means of character shaping in musicals,but also involves several factors.The musical is a highly integrated stage art.The thesis is classified into four chapters,the first of which covers the musical "Jekyll&Hyde" content and story overview as well as the birth of the Chinese version.The second chapter of the main content of Lucy,Jekyll and Hyde through the music style,clothing,and action design to complete the characterization,reflecting the significance of characterization in the musical.The third chapter primarily focuses on the lyrics,melody,singing skills,and other aspects of the analysis and study of the singing paragraph "Someone like you"and "Confrontation".The fourth chapter examines from the macro perspective that musical character shaping and singing abilities are two crucial elements in musicals,These aim at the discussion of vocal singers on the fusion application as well as training of contemporary beautiful sound,nationality and famous singing techniques.Deducing from the aforementioned content analysis from the theoretical level to provide vocal singers tips,in order to ensure that characters’ interpretation is more vivid and reaches the hearts of the people.
