Abstract/Summary:
With the development of translation studies,more and more scholars have paid attention to and recognized the importance of the translator.The recognition of translator’s role from the perspective of hermeneutics has deepened translation research method as well as theoretical basis for the study of translator’s subjectivity.The translator’s status has become clearer.This study puts forward solutions to the practical problems,which promotes the development of translation studies.The thesis is mainly based on George Steiner’s hermeneutic translation.According to the literature overview at home and abroad,the author analyzes the influence of hermeneutic theory on translator’s subjectivity and its application from the aspects of the theoretical and case analysis.A Thousand Years of Good Prayers is one the most representative short story collections in Chinese American literature.Taking the Chinese translation of the ninth story of the book as an example,this thesis explores how the George Steiner’s four steps,such as trust,invasion,incorporation and compensation are useful in such translation practice.The thesis aims to provide a new perspective for translation study and to further improve translator’s status based on hermeneutic translation.It shows the importance of the application of hermeneutics in practical translation and therefore has relevance to the translation of similar literary works.
