This report is based on an interpretation practice for a webinar, recording the whole process from pre-task preparation, interpreting process to post-task reflection. The two-hour interpreting practice was conducted in the form of online consecutive interpreting and centered on the theme of overseas investment. The interpreting practice was challenging with high information density, high professionalism, and high processing capacity requirements for the nterpreter.Gile’s Effort Model suggests that the quality of interpreting is related to proper effort allocation, and if total processing capacity requirements exceed interpreters’ total available processing capacity, problems such as omission and misinterpretation will occur.Under the guidance of Gile’s Effort Model,by analyzing its positive guiding effect on online consecutive interpreting, this report identifies the problems caused by cognitive overload in the interpreting process and summarizes the corresponding countermeasures. It is expected to shed some light on remote interpreting and help interpreters to enhance their interpreting quality.
