| English songs and chants,as the teaching content and important teaching material resources specified in the English Curriculum Standard for Compulsory Education(2011edition),are gaining increasingly popularity among primary school students because these English songs and chants possess such characteristics as cheerful rhythm,fabulous melody and simple lyrics.The teaching of English songs and chants is not only able to arouse students’ enthusiasm in learning English,but also to promote the development of students’ comprehensive language capability.Therefore,the teaching of English songs and chants is paid attention to by more and more teachers.However,even though teachers know the merits of teaching English songs and chants,in the process of teaching,English songs and chants have not been given due attention,which makes the teaching form and content of English songs and chants separate;thus,the teaching value of English songs and chants has not been given full play.By using the methods of questionnaire and interview,this study focuses on the current situation of English songs and chants teaching in senior primary schools in Shanghai in light of teaching cognition and attitude,teaching development and design,teaching implementation and teaching evaluation.The existing problems and the causes of these problems are analyzed.And the possible strategies of improving the effect of the teaching of English songs and chants in senior primary schools are explored and put forward.It is found that the main problems in the teaching of English songs and chants in senior primary schools are as follows: Firstly,the selection of teaching resources of English songs and chants is not accurate;Secondly,the exploration of the content of English songs and chants is not adequate;Thirdly,the teaching objectives are unclear;Fourthly,the teaching methods of English songs and chants used by teacher are simple;Fifthly,the teaching time of English songs and chants is insufficient;Finally,the evaluation standard of English songs and chants teaching is unclear,and the way of teaching evaluation of English songs and chants is single.The reasons are as follows: Firstly,primary school English teachers do not pay enough attention to the teaching of English songs and chants;Secondly,primary school English teachers do not have a strong awareness of the development of English songs and chants;Thirdly,primary school English teachers are lack of professional ability;Fourthly,primary school English teachers are not able to systematically design the teaching of English songs and chants;Fifthly,the teaching evaluation system of primary school English songs and chants is not sound.The strategies are as follows: Firstly,strengthen cooperation in the development of English songs and chants teaching resources;Secondly,improve teachers’ professional ability in the teaching of English songs and chants;Thirdly,design systematically English songs and chants teaching by contacting the unit themes;Fourthly,improve the English songs and chants teaching evaluation system by adopting multiple evaluation methods. |
