With the development of elementary education reform,English songs and chants have gradually appeared in the public's field of vision and have been used in primary school English classroom teaching.English songs and chants have become an important learning content and basic teaching method in elementary school with their distinctive and rich rhythm and cultural connotation.But in actual teaching,there are still many problems in the application of English songs and chants,so a more in-depth discussion is needed.In this study,the author firstly grasped the current situation of English songs and chants through literature review,classroom observations and teacher interviews,then found problems.Secondly,combined with existing experience,proposed improving teaching thoughts and presented teaching design examples,and finally conducted experiments to test the effectiveness of song and chant teaching.This article is divided into five chapters.The introduction of the first chapter mainly describes the background,significance,methods and related research reviews.The second chapter mainly analyzes classroom observation records and teacher interview records to find out the application status of English songs and chants in teaching and find out the problems.Chapter 3 combines the teaching experience and teaching thoughts of predecessors to propose design ideas and specific implementation processes for listening,speaking,reading and writing classes,and presents examples of teaching design for listening classes.The fourth chapter is a experiment of the traditional English song and chant application and the English song and chant application guided by the strategy proposed by the author.The author selects two classes of grade 5 with similar learning basis as the experimental objects.The experimental class uses songs and chants to teach according to the teaching ideas proposed by the author,and the control class teaches according to the traditional ideas.In the case of other conditions being the same,after nearly a semester of the experiment,a comprehensive English test was conducted on the two classes to compare whether the scores of the two classes were different.Chapter 5 concludes that the results of the experimental class are slightly better than those of the control class,which proves that the teaching ideas proposed by the author are effective.It also expounds the enlightenment,deficiencies and suggestions for future research.
