At present,English courses are offered in the third grade of primary schools in most parts of China,and the English level of students is becoming more and more demanding.The new curriculum standard proposes the basic objectives of current primary school English teaching from five dimensions,that is,the objectives of language knowledge,language skills,emotional attitude,learning strategy and cultural awareness.English Curriculum Standards for compulsory education(2011 edition)clearly states in the description of skill objectives that 30~40 songs or simple poems can be performed(including level 1 requirements);students can sing 30~40 English songs.This illustrates the importance of English songs in primary school English teaching.Chants teaching can effectively aim at the five-dimensional goal,improve the students' comprehensive ability to use language,and there is no complex requirements for teaching equipment,so it is easy to be used in teaching.After years of English teaching,the author finds that many primary school English teachers in cities are fond of English chants teaching activities,and some English teaching and research teams in some famous universities have even establish workshops to do the relative research.Therefore,the mastery of English chants by urban pupils fully meets the requirements of the new curriculum standards.Although some teachers in rural primary school have taught English songs and chants,they have insufficient understanding of them and have no in-depth study or research methods.Furthermore,most theory is mainly originated from foreign countries,meanwhile,because of the most rural primary school teachers' obsolete teaching idea,backward teaching methods,insufficient understanding of the importance of chants teaching,the song teaching method in rural primary school has no promotion.Therefore,this paper will study the application of English chants in classes in rural primary schools,and try to analyze and verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the application of chants in English teaching in rural primary schools.In this study,two classes of grade four were selected as the experimental subjects.By analyzing the final scores of the two classes in the first semester,it can be concluded that the students stand on the same level.Therefore,class 1 of grade 4 is set as the experimental class and class 2 as the control class.In the experimental class,English chants are used to assist the teaching,while the control class still uses the regular teaching methods and strategies.The experiment lasted for four months from September2019 to December 2019.Students in two classes are given the same questionnaire to compare and analyze whether their interest in English learning changed before and after the experiment.Then,several students from the experimental class are selected for the interview to know about their views,attitudes and suggestions on the chants teaching.The pre-test,post-test and interview are used to compare and analyze whether their interest and score improved after the use of chants to assist teaching.The results of the questionnaire show that students have a positive attitude towards the chants teaching,and their interest in learning and self-confidence have improved.The pre-test indicated two classes are the same,while the post-test showed that experimental class exceeded the control class.It indicateds that the use of song assisted teaching is helpful to improve students' scores.In a word,using chants to assist English classroom teaching can enhance students' interest in learning and improve their abilities in all aspects.As a rural teacher,we should constantly try new educational methods,enrich educational activities,improve educational concepts and improve teaching level.There are still some limitations in this study,such as relatively small experimental subjects and scope,insufficient experimental time,and no integrated study of chants teaching with other disciplines.I will study carefully in the future to realize the positive role of chants teaching in rural primary school.
