The Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana and the Confucius Institute at the University of Cape Coast began operations in April 2014 and June 2016.Since then,they have cooperated with many local schools in Ghana.A total of 12 Confucius Institute teaching sites have been established.The training targets include elementary and junior high schools.,Adults,etc.The coverage of teaching has gradually expanded,but teaching problems have become increasingly prominent.In the research of these problems,we have gradually improved our teaching ability and promoted the development of Chinese teaching in Ghana.This article adopts the method of combining professional theory and practical demonstration,taking the teaching point of the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana,Al-royan International School as the starting point,and understanding the current Chinese teaching situation in Ghana from a small view.First,I will introduce the overall situation of Chinese teaching at Al-royan International School: teachers are from the Confucius Institute,students are internationalized,teaching materials are selected by teachers,teaching facilities are complete,Chinese activities are abundant,and Chinese exams are not clear.Then,through questionnaire surveys and interviews and dialogues,the current teaching problems of Al-royan International School were discovered: insufficient cooperation between the school and the Confucius Institute and weak restraint on teachers;insufficient understanding of IB courses by teachers and lack of handover in changing positions.There is a severe shortage of local teachers;Chinese students lack workbooks in teaching materials,and teaching materials for overseas students are frequently changed.By analyzing the current problems and reasons,this article puts forward some thoughts and suggestions: the school and the Confucius Institute work closely to strengthen teacher restraint,enrich Chinese books,and fill in the gaps of local teachers;teachers improve their own teaching ability and quality based on teaching feedback,Maintain the continuity of teaching materials and compile local teaching materials that are in line with local cultural characteristics in a timely and appropriate manner.Through the investigation of schools,teachers,and teaching materials,this article systematically analyzes the current situation of students’ learning and teachers’ teaching in the form of questionnaire surveys and interviews,and puts forward specific thoughts and suggestions in a targeted manner.I hope that I can introduce the current situation of Chinese teaching in Ghana in an insightful manner,so as to provide a little reference for volunteers and public teachers who are engaged in international Chinese teaching in the future,and provide a little reference for the development of Chinese teaching in Ghana.
