The game teaching method is favored by all subjects in primary schools because of its features,such as teaching through entertainment,learning through students' favorite games,helping to stimulate students' interest and improving teaching efficiency.Primary school English course is compulsory in the basic education stage,which is provided from the third grade of primary school.In the English curriculum standard of primary school,games such as “speak and sing” and “play and act” are advocated to develop students' integrating skills of using English language.Then,in the current English teaching practice in primary school,is the game teaching method widely used? How is it working? What are the other problems? How to optimize? This is the main ideas and problems that this research is trying to investigate,analyze and discuss.This study sets J elementary school of Q city as an example,through questionnaire investigation,interview method and observation method to investigate the actuality of the English game teaching method in elementary school by six dimensions: the attitude of teachers and students towards the game teaching method,the game participation of teachers and students,select and design games,the monitoring of game teaching method,the evaluation of game teaching method,the related resources of game teaching method.The survey found that although the universality of the use of game teaching method in elementary school English teaching is high,but the understanding of the game teaching method of the teachers and students is not sufficient,and the specific use of primary English game teaching method is not impeccable;There are some problems of using game teaching method,such as the purpose of the game teaching method is vague;the characteristics of the game teaching method in English are not outstanding;the lack of innovation in the design and application of game teaching method,including the design of the game is single,the teacher's grasp of the difficulty of the game is not accurate,the explanation of the game deviated from the original intention of the design of the rules,lead to a deviation in the students' understanding;the lack of students' subjectivity in the game teaching method,including students' have unequal opportunities to participate in games,the lack of teacher-student interaction,the teacher's incentive effect to the student is not optimal;the strong randomness of monitoring and feedback in the game teaching method,including not enough time to prepare for the game,the class was disordered and the unexpected problems were not handled properly,students can't quickly return to class when the game is over.The main reasons leading to the above problems are the limitation of teachers' view of game and teaching ability,the lack of students' ability and habit of participating and creating teaching games,the restriction of resources and management of game teaching in school,the restriction of the inherent attributes of game teaching method.Therefore,in order to optimize primary English game teaching,the improvement of teachers' view of game and ability is the key,the improvement of students' ability and form a habit to participate in and create teaching games is the focal point,schools pay more attention to resources and management of game teaching is the guarantee.
