Xue Feng,a poet in the late Tang Dynasty,was not an outstanding poet in the Tang Dynasty.In his life,he longed for fame and official career.But in troubled times like late Tang Dynasty,there was no way to seek for it.In the opposite,he was relegated many times.The poems he wrote in his later years still showed his grief,indignation and regret,and his original innocence did not change.He wrote a lot of poems,but he also lost a lot of them.A part of them have been handed down.Few people made comments on his works,which were mixed as a whole.Some said that his poems were comparable to those of the prosperous Tang Dynasty,but some said that his poems were too vulgar.On the basis of previous studies,this paper will make a comprehensive and accurate textual research on Xue Feng’s life and his poems by listing a wide range of historical and poetic materials.The first chapter of this paper studies Xue Feng’s life,such as his native place,family background,circle of friends and so on.The section of "circle of friends" not only studies the general situation of Xue Feng’s friends,but also analyzes Xue Feng’s situation in Niu and Li factional strife in detail.At the same time,on the basis of making clear Xue Feng’s official career,we can make chronology of his poems which can verify the specific year.The second chapter is an overview of the situation of poetry,such as the evolution of works in the past dynasties and the status of records.In addition,based on Xue Feng’s poems recorded in the Full poetry of Tang Dynasty,the author distinguishes his works which were repeatedly or mistakenly included.The third chapter discusses the origin of Xue Feng’s poetic thoughts,such as the strong color of Confucianism in his poems,the common use of gorgeous words and expressions in Taoism,and the yearning for the quiet and ascetic attitude of Buddhism revealed in his poems.The fourth chapter discusses the specific theme of Xue Feng’s poetry,which is divided into five parts: farewell and giving,history and nostalgia,lyric and reciting feelings,recording and travel notes and chanting objects and personification.In each part,the author makes a detailed classification to show the whole picture.The fifth chapter is about the artistic style of Xue Feng’s poetry.Generally speaking,Xue Feng’s poems are diverse and complicated,which is also one of the reasons why his poems are praised and criticized by later generations.This chapter is divided into three parts: bright and vigorous sentiments;beautiful and gorgeous language;broad and profound artistic conception.Most of them quoted comments on later generations’ poems and analyzed the controversial opinions of later generations’ scholars in order to make it clear.The sixth chapter discusses the theme and artistic features of Xue Feng’s literary works.Xue Feng is famous for his literary works,and his Disciplined Fu are scattered in parallel,with the alternation of level and oblique tones,which is read like singing.The letters he wrote is also orderly and distinct.Because there is no special note on Xue Feng’s works,the author makes the collation and annotation of Xue Feng’s poems and essays,and the appendix is at the back of the text.The proofreading notes are divided into two parts: collation and annotation.In the part of "collation",the author takes the Full Poetry of Tang Dynasty and the Full Literary Works of Tang Dynasty as the base book,and refers to the Essence of Literature,the Unified Poems of Tang-Dynasty,Collection of Rhyme Prose in Successive Dynasties,One Hundred Poems of the Tang-Dynasty and so on,to proofread Xue Feng’s poems and essays.In the part of "annotation",the author makes a detailed annotation on the things,rare words,allusions,and the use of predecessors’ poems in Xue Feng’s poems and essays,so as to create a perfect annotation.
