The Study Of Five-Character-Pre-Tang-Poems In Late Tang Dynasty

This thesis mainly discussed the actual creation works, their themes and functions of Five-Character-Pre-Tang-Poems in Late Tang Dynasty on the historical and literary background.Poems in Pre-Tang form represent the opposite and relative ones that were created after the establishment of Modern Poem in the most prosperous age of Tang Dynasty. Because of the clear and strict boundaries on prosody system, Pre-Tang-Poems in Late Tang Dynasty, including traditional ones and majority of the ancient style of Yuefu-Poems, are really free from tonal patterns and rhyming, which means both of them can’t be sang as before, not musical but literary virtually. They two should be regarded as Pre-Tang-Poems. The number of poets and their poems is not a little. Those poems in Late Tang really focus on the allegory of current society as well as expression of oneself. This does make sense to help readers and researchers understand more about the Late Tang social circumstances and the own experience of poets. Therefore, there is a certain value of this thesis’subject.The introduction. First, it was defined what’s Pre-Tang-Poems and its significance in the history of classical poetry. After reviewing the history of relative research in the past, it was proposed that Yuefu-Poems in Pre-Tang-Style should be involved into the discussion of this subject.Chapter I. Briefly talked about the development route of Gufeng-Poems and the literary works of Late-Tang period. Then a careful analysis on its fundamental function of social-problems-reflection.Chapter II. Talked about the large amount of creation of Late-Tang-Yuefu-Poems in Pre-Tang-Style. Poets of this portion, created new titles or reuse the classical ones. Either of them has its characters and development loop.Chapter III. Talked about another function of Pre-Tang-Poems in Late-Tang period, which is expressing oneself. Found out that this portion of works could be divided into two parts, concerning to the social society or the past history.It’s sure that Five-Character-Pre-Tang-Poems in Late Tang has always been a weak link in the field of Tang-Dynasty-Poem-Research. Through general and logical analysis, I hope that we researchers would strive to find Five-Character-Pre-Tang-Poems in Late Tang an appropriate location in the history of Tang-Poetry or even the entire one of ancient poetry.
